The pscan.uk interface and cables are designed to be conformant with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 (UK).
These regulations are the UK implementation of EU Directive 2001/95/EC.
The interface and cables are designed to be safe in the context of, and only in the context of, connection to the J1962 connector (commonly known as an OBD diagnostics port) of a standard 12V motor vehicle, the three pin propriety MG Rover diagnostic port, or the USB port of a computer.
The interface or cables should not be connected to any other equipment nor used for any other purpose.
The interface and cables contain exposed conductive parts which are electrically connected to the earth or chassic voltage of both a vehicle and a computer; therefore if a vehicle or computer become electrically unsafe, then the pscan.uk interface and cables may also become unsafe by virture of being connected to a faulty vehicle or computer.
If the user has any concerns about the electrical safety of a vehicle or computer, then, neither the pscan.uk interface nor cables should be connected to it.
The pscan.uk interface is only designed to be connected to a vehicle or computer using the cables that were supplied with it by pscan.uk LTD
Other products from other diagnostic tool manufacturers include cables which may appear to be similar to those supplied by pscan.uk LTD, but which have a different pinout. There is no industry standard pinout for a J1962 to 15 pin D type connector.
Such cables could cause exposed conductive parts to be connected to voltages on the J1962 connector which are not earth or chassis which would create the risk of a short to ground of such signals.
Therefore the pscan.uk interface should only be used with cables supplied by pscan.uk LTD
In the same way, the cables supplied by pscan.uk LTD should not be used with automative accessories or tools supplied by other companies.
The pscan.uk product is not waterproof and must only be used in a dry environment.
The pscan.uk product contains no user serviceable parts and should not be opened by customers.
No safety related concerns have been made known to pscan.uk LTD about the product.
Any customer who believes that there is a safety related problem with a pscan.uk product may email us using the email address shown on our "buy" page, write to us at the address registered with Companies House, or raise their concerns on our support forum.
The pscan.uk interface and cables consist of connectors that are consistent only with industry standard, low voltage applications. The J1962 connector is specific to the diagnostic port of motor vehicles with 12V electrical systems, and, the USB connectors are consistent with the 5V power supply of computers.
Therefore the probability of a user being exposed to any voltage higher than the nominal 12V of a motor vehicle system is assessed by pscan.uk LTD to be very low, and therefore the risks of using the interface are very low.
